A Christmas Forest Full of Angels

Christkindlmarket Des Moines 2025 is fast approaching and we have twelve nonprofit “angel” organizations (7 returning and 5 new ones!) preparing decorations and designs to electrify and entrance those who visit the Weihnachtswald, Christmas Forest.

Each “Angel” organization has been featured in the lead up to CDM 2025, and we want to share with you what each nonprofit has in store for your viewing pleasure.

The Silent Auction will begin the first day of the market, Thursday, December 4th at 5pm and conclude Sunday, December 7th at 5pm. Winning bidders will be notified via our text-to-bid platform and all trees will be wrapped and ready for pick up between 5:30pm and 7:30 pm Sunday evening. Park on Water St south of MLK to pick up your tree.

Item 0101 presented by Daughters of Norway: Hues of Color of Homes/Churches in Norway

This tree will have decor to showcase the colors of homes both inside and out: beautiful oranges, reds, greens, and yellows. These will brighten the chills of Norway winters.


Item 0102 presented by New Hope United Methodist Church: A Mosaic of Tradition

The tree will be adorned with handmade mosaic cross ornaments and handmade traditional Christmas ornaments with photos of their diverse organization.


Item 0103 presented by Community Food Closet at New Beginnings Christian Church: Angels

This angel tree will be decorated by a multitude of angel ornaments donated by their congregation. Angels are God’s helpers and the people who volunteer at the Food Closet are helping God feed his sheep.


Item 0104 presented by Iowa Environmental Council: A Sustainable Christmas to all…and to all a Good Life

A tree adorned with decorations that are sustainable, up-cycled and natural. These will include decorated natural wood slices, bamboo hoops with up-cycled fabric, and seed paper origami cranes that can be planted to grow wildflowers.


Item 0105 presented by Self-Help International: Monumental Maize

This tree is a celebration of maize. Corn isn’t just a vital part of Iowa’s economy; it is an important crop around the world, feeding millions and people and animals every day.


Item 0106 presented by Scottish Heritage Society of Iowa: Scotties & Heelan Cows

A beautiful tree decorated with traditional colors with Scottie dogs and Heelan Coos.


Item 0107 presented by Sons of Norway: Hygge Christmas

Hygge is a word in Norwegian that describes a cozy, contented mood evoked by comfort and conviviality.  The tree will be festooned with candles, cookies, candies, mittens, kind words and musical notes.  Also winter evoking ornaments like snowflakes and  icicles are to be displayed.   Norwegian flag colors of red, white and blue will dominate on Rosemal
 decorated ornaments..


Item 0108 presented Friendship Force of Greater Des Moines: Peace, Love, and Friendship

This tree will be decked out in Retro-60’s colors with peace symbols and peace doves.


Item 0109 presented by Fort Des Moines Little League: Happy Birthday USA!

This tree will be filled with red, white and blue patriotic decorations to celebrate the 250th birthday of the USA in 2026. Small flags, wooden ornaments with photos of historic people and places in the USA, various red, white and blue decorative ornaments.


Item 0110 presented by Danish Brotherhood Lodge #15: The Danish Julenisse/Gnome

The tree will have various decorations that depict this mischievous gift giving creature as well as ornaments made from straw and paper. The Danish flag with its white cross on a red background sets our color palette. Stars, woven hearts, flags, snowflakes and more, will carry the Christmastime message.


Item 0111 presented by Beacon of Life: 26 Days of Christmas: A Day of Hope

The tree will feature handmade ornaments and encouraging notes created by the women at The Beacon. Each ornament will represent a day of hope, highlighting that $26 provides one woman with a full day of safety, shelter, and stability. Rather than the traditional 25 days, our tree will celebrate 26 — tying into our 26 for Her campaign. The decorations will reflect resilience, dignity, and the promise of new beginnings.


Item 0112 presented by Full Circle Recovery Community Centers: The Gift of Recovery

The tree decorations fit with the theme by including words of hope, well-being, and supports. It will be teal and gold with ornaments with our staff/volunteer/recoveree’s sobriety dates and messaging about hope/gifts of recovery. It will be sprinkled with recovery-inspired words as the tinsel.
