A Christmas Forest Full of Angels

Christkindlmarket Des Moines is fast approaching and we have twelve nonprofit “angel” organizations preparing decorations and designs to electrify and entrance those who visit the Weihnachtswald, Christmas Forest.

Each “Angel” organization has been featured in the lead up to CDM 2023, and we want to share with you what each nonprofit has in store for your viewing pleasure:


Item 0101 presented by Can Do Cancer: The Guiding Stars

Hand painted ornaments highlighting up to 70 breast cancer survivors who now provide support for others on their cancer journey. Featuring blue, green, gold and metallic colors with lots of glitz.


Item 0102 presented by Living History Farms: Flynn Family Christmas

Victorian-style paper ornaments similar to those at the real-life Flynn House including pleated paper medallions and decorative Christmas cones.


Item 0103 presented by Italian-American Cultural Center of Iowa: Buon Natalie

The ornaments are hand-made and decorated with Italian words and sites of interest in Italy.


Item 0104 presented by Hope Animal Rescue of Iowa: Rescued

Tree and ornaments planned and hand crafted by volunteers including a dog treat wreath, salt dough ornaments and a PVC fire hydrant topper.


Item 0105 presented by Daughters of Norway: Flags of the Scandinavian Countries

Displaying flags and accompanying colors from 5 different Nordic regions: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.


Item 0106 presented by Serving Hands, Inc.: Nourishing Lives, Uplifting Hearts

Magical gnomes are scattered throughout the tree protecting, nourishing and fellowshipping with their wildlife friends.

Item 0108 presented by AFS Intercultural Programs USA: Passport to Study Abroad with AFS

The tree will feature countries of students hosted in Iowa and filled with ornaments and paper airplanes made by current AFS students.


Item 0109 presented by Danish Brotherhood Lodge #15: Hygge Christmas


Item 0110 presented Self-Help International: Empowering Evergreen

Decorated to represent SHI’s partner communities in rural Ghana and Nicaragua with QR code ornaments sharing stories about clients who have become empowered and improved their quality of life.


Item 0111 presented by Alliance Française of Central Iowa: “Perestroika in Paris”

Based on the fantasy novel by Jane Smiley, blue, silver, and red will wrap around this tree with decorations representing the book and the “City of Light.”


Item 0112 presented by Sons of Norway Marsteinen Lodge: Norwegian Christmas

You can’t miss these beauties in the Weihnachtswald when the Silent Auction bidding starts on the first night of CDM 2023, November 30th at 5pm and ends December 4, 2023 at 5pm with all trees picked up right after the market closes between 5:30- and 7:30pm.
