Mosaic in Central Iowa

The Christkindlmarket Silent Auction has twelve Iowa non-profit organizations thrilled to present festive tree creations to our market patrons. Mosaic in Central Iowa is joining us for a second year with their tree “Powered by Connection.” Along with decorating a Silent Auction tree, Mosaic volunteers alongside partner organizations throughout the holidays.

Mosaic was formed in 2003 from the consolidation of two Nebraska-born Lutheran ministries dedicated to the needs of people with disabilities. It is their mission to relentlessly pursue opportunities to empower people.

Des Moines Refugee Support

The Christkindlmarket Silent Auction has twelve Iowa non-profit organizations thrilled to present festive tree creations to our market patrons. Joining CDM’s Silent Auction for the first time is Des Moines Refugee Support. The “Iowa is for Everyone” tree will be decorated with ornaments designed and created by refugee children living in Des Moines. Des Moines Refugee Support identifies and bridges gaps for refugee families as they establish their new lives in Iowa. DMRS focuses on immediate and basic needs, early education, activities, and empowering teenagers. DMRS enjoys a Santa’s Ride holiday tradition visiting 5-6 apartment complexes to hand out toys, winter coats, boots, clothes, toiletries, and food.

Des Moines Refugee Support Upcoming Events:

  • November 23-27 : DMRS is assisting Central Presbyterian Church distributing Thanksgiving baskets with culturally appropriate foods for Afghan neighbors. DMRS will also organize pizza delivery for a fun treat to other refugee families during this week off of school.
  • December 3: Santa’s Ride– find a sign-up genius to help volunteer or donate items on DMRS Facebook page.
  • December 26-30 Winter Break is another extended time when kids aren’t eating breakfast and lunch at school. Last Winter Break we had pizzas delivered to over 60 families, and we plan to do so again.

Hope Animal Rescue of Iowa

The Christkindlmarket Silent Auction has twelve Iowa non-profit organizations thrilled to present festive tree creations to our market patrons. Hope Animal Rescue of Iowa has returned for a second year with a Hope for Rescued Animals tree. In addition to beautifying CDM 2022 with an amazing tree, they have a Giving Tree tradition with their vet partner, Pet Medical Center of Urbandale.

Providing “Hope” is the main goal of this animal rescue which was founded in June 2014. According to their website, they are “a no-kill rescue whose mission is to rescue, protect, and provide hope as we search for loving homes for stray and neglected animals.”

Danish Brotherhood Des Moines Lodge #15

The Christkindlmarket Silent Auction has twelve Iowa non-profit organizations thrilled to present festive tree creations to our market patrons. We have a wonderful mix of returning cheer spreaders and new go-getters to bring all the charm market goers have come to expect from the CDM Silent Tree Auction in the Weihnachtswald.

The Danish Brotherhood Lodge #15 has been hard at work creating a festive Danish tree to tempt bidders. As a three year participant, this is fast becoming an organization tradition bringing members together to celebrate Danish heritage as they craft a beautiful tree.
The Danish Brotherhood was chartered November 26, 1884 with a mission to encourage Danish tradition, support members, and other community nonprofits.

Children Invited to Participate in Opening Ceremony Procession

Children are an integral component of any Christkindlmarket opening ceremony. Would your child (children) like to follow “Saint Nicholas” through Christkindlmarket Des Moines to participate in the opening ceremony?

Contact Dave Cox at [email protected] with questions and interest. We would like at most 25 children to participate.

Children and parents are invited to gather in the Entrance of the venue at 5:40pm on Friday, December 2, (please be on time) to receive a luminary and battery-operated candle. Please return the luminaries to a volunteer at the end of the opening ceremony if your child does not wish to take it home.

Christkindlmarket DSM Mug Unveiling and Open House

Be one of the first to view Christkindlmarket Des Moines’ 2022 Glühwein mug design at Jasper Winery on Monday, June 13 from 5 – 7pm. The mug design will be revealed at 6pm.

Shop a mini market featuring foods and handcrafted items from Christkindlmarket Des Moines 2022 vendors. Jasper wines and Madhouse beer will be available for purchase.

A limited quantity of commemorative mugs are ordered each year, the first 25 attendees to donate $25 (or more) to guarantee their 2022 mug will receive a goody bag. European Cultural Meet-Up Hosted by Daughters of Norway

Enjoy the fellowship of a diverse group of European Cultural Organizations for a “Meet-Up” at Christkindlmarket Des Moines.

Date: Saturday, December 4
Time: 6-9pm

Meet in Yuletide Hall (an outdoor, forced-air heated entertainment tent) as you sip on Glühwein, enjoy a seasonal craft beer or nosh on brats from the IECC brat stand.

Represent your European culture by wearing traditional attire (if you’d like) and get to know other cultural organizations in Central Iowa.

The Daughters of Norway – Eva Nansen Lodge #46 will be your host and a table will be reserved for the group.
