Iowans have had the unique opportunity to witness the birth and growth of their very own European Christmas market known as Christkindlmarket Des Moines (CDM). Our nonprofit’s mission is to connect Iowans with European traditions, language learning and cultural experiences.

2024 Commemorative Glühwein Mug donation:
This year’s creative took inspiration from the art of rosemaling, originating in Norway, which includes the painting of wooden furniture and objects with flower motifs.
Rose-painting, rosemaling, rosemåling or rosmålning is a Scandinavian decorative folk painting that flourished from the 1700s to the mid-1800s, particularly in Norway.
Rosemaling ornaments hang vertically as if hung from a decorated tree. The tree features “Merry Christmas” in various European languages.
