Enjoy the fellowship of a diverse group of European Cultural Heritage Organizations for a “Meet-Up” at Christkindlmarket Des Moines 2017. Meet in Yuletide Hall (an outdoor, forced-air heated entertainment tent) as you sip on Glühwein, enjoy a seasonal craft beer or nosh on sausages from Curbin’ Cuisine.
Represent the European culture you most identify with to the Des Moines community with your traditional attire, beer steins, and Glühwein mugs as you get to know members of other cultural heritage organizations in Central Iowa, such as Stammtisch – Des Moines German Club, Danish Brotherhood Lodge #15, Des Moines, IA, Clan Henderson, The Scottish Society Council, Marsteinen Lodge-Sons of Norway and Alliance Française.

As you might have noticed from our posts lately, there is a lot to do this summer in Des Moines. We’ve already visited the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market and we’ll be celebrating Christmas in July with a moonlight bike ride on July 8.
Check out the photos below from our booth at the Des Moines Arts Festival. The Prairie Meadows Community Outreach Program allows non-profit organizations to connect with the public. Both children and adults had a fun time making a ornaments and jewelry and learning more about Des Moines European Heritage Association and Christkindlmarket Des Moines.

One of the best parts of living in Des Moines during the summer months is the Downtown Farmer’s Market. Is there a better way to spend a Saturday morning than grabbing a breakfast sandwich or burrito and browsing the local produce offerings? Add some great weather and live music and it can’t be beat.
The great opportunities don’t stop there. Did you know you can learn more about what’s happening in Des Moines at the Downtown Farmer’s Market? Each week the market gives non-profit and charitable organizations the opportunity to connect with the community and create awareness for their causes.
On June 3, Des Moines European Heritage Association was at the Downtown Farmer’s Market at the community corner to share our mission with market goers. We made candy cane ornaments at our stall for people to take home.

What a great way to celebrate the amazing Spring weather. On May 6, several folks met at the Saylorville Cottonwood Recreation Area for make/take activities, a scavenger hunt, food from Curbin’ Cuisine and a good, old-fashioned bake sale! Scroll through the photos below!

As a part of Christkindlmarket Des Moines, we have a unique fundraising opportunity for non-profit organizations.
We will have 15 – six to eight foot trees available for decoration that will be displayed outside during the market and sold via a silent auction. The organization that decorates the tree will receive the funds earned from Des Moines European Heritage Association following the event, and minimum bids will start at $50.
Individual organizations are responsible for all tree decorations including lights (if you choose to use them). All items used on the tree will be given to the winning bidder. Please make sure decorations are able to withstand the temperamental Iowa weather (snow, sleet, rain, and/or wind). We will do our best to protect what we can, but the trees will remain outside and uncovered for the duration of Christkindlmarket Des Moines.
Tree decorating will take place the day before the event, Thursday, November 30th.
Please fill out this form (applications open April 3) to become a participant at the Chistkindlmarket Des Moines silent auction tree decorating. Participation sign up will close July 31st. Once you have submitted your form, you will be contacted with additional information and a request for verification of your non-profit status.
