Join DMEHA at the Des Moines Arts Festival June 28 – 30. This award winning festival is a great way to get out and see the city. Located in Western Gateway Park, around the John and Mary Papajohn Sculpture Park, it includes artist demonstrations, live music and art available for purchase. The hundreds of artists featured were each selected by a committee to present their work at the festival.
Even better, there is a community outreach program where local non-profit organizations can connect with the public. DMEHA will be located there, near the Community Choice Credit Union Performing Stage. Look for us on Grand Avenue off of 15th Street.
We’ll be sharing our own art project with visitors while we’re there. Come by our tent to make a craft to take home.
We can’t wait to see everyone there! Get your friends together to learn more about DMEHA and Christkindlmarket Des Moines while appreciating another great event Des Moines has to offer.

One of the best parts of living in Des Moines during the summer months is the Downtown Farmer’s Market. Is there a better way to spend a Saturday morning than grabbing a breakfast sandwich or burrito and browsing the local produce offerings? Add some great weather and live music and it can’t be beat.
The great opportunities don’t stop there. Did you know you can learn more about what’s happening in Des Moines at the Downtown Farmer’s Market? Each week the market gives non-profit and charitable organizations the opportunity to connect with the community and create awareness for their causes.

Christkindlmarket Des Moines is proud to present a unique fundraising opportunity for nonprofit organizations. We invite up to 15 participants to decorate 6-8 foot cut trees** that will be displayed during the market and sold via a silent auction. The organization that decorates the tree will receive 100% of the profits earned from Des Moines European Heritage Association following the event.
Individual organizations are responsible for all tree decorations, and all items used on the tree will be given to the winning bidder. We encourage decorations that are able to withstand the temperamental Iowa weather (snow, sleet, rain, and/or wind). The trees remain outside for the duration of Christkindlmarket Des Moines.
Relocating Christkindlmarket Des Moines to Principal Park this year has afforded us the opportunity to make some exciting changes relating to the Silent Auction.
We will once again be using off-site bidding technology to garner bids and use i-Pads on site to help interested bidders register. Minimum bids will start at $60 and increase in increments of $10. Organizations will be asked to decorate their tree on Wednesday, December 4th. Bidding will begin Thursday night, December 5th, at 5pm and close Sunday, December 8th, at 3pm.
Please use this link to register your nonprofit organization as a participant at the Chistkindlmarket Des Moines Silent Auction tree decorating. Once the form has been submitted, additional information will be sent via email.
If you have any questions, contact Missy Mootz at [email protected].
** Cut trees are not perfect and will have a tendency to lean. We have upgraded our stands this year to help with leaning, but they will not always allow for the optimal display of the tree. We will present the trees in the most positive way given our circumstances. Please manage your expectations accordingly.
We are thrilled to announce that Des Moines European Heritage Association will be GiveIowa’s selected charity for November 2018. Greater Iowa Credit Union (GICU) began GiveIowa to further its message of what being a cooperative is all about: helping the causes and non-profit organizations that are important to their/our members and coming together for the good of our communities.
GICU selects one member-nominated non-profit organization each month. They receive $250 directly from GICU and are featured on the GiveIowa.org website, a crowdfunding platform that allows donors to easily contribute via credit or debit card. Our goal is to raise an additional $250+ during the short 30 days we are featured on the site. Why $250? Because GICU will match it! That makes our total goal $500 in addition to the initial $250.
GiveIowa leverages the power of social connection to help raise money using our members’ social networks. Social media is a critical factor in crowdfunding success: for every order of magnitude increase in Facebook friends sharing your link (10, 100, 1000), the probability of successfully meeting your fundraising goals increases drastically (from 9% to 20% to 40%).
Contributors can donate as little or as much as they want—and the more donors, the more engage-ment a project gets. The GiveIowa platform allows people to work together, transforming many small contributions into overall fundraising success. This can really make a difference in our neighborhoods, communities, and cities as well as Des Moines European Heritage Association.
All funds collected by GiveIowa go to the featured charitable organizations—GICU covers any third-party credit card processing or other fees. Our organization will be featured by GiveIowa beginning on November 1. Visit www.GiveIowa.org to learn more about our specific fundraising goals, our progress and to make your donation.
